This policy explains what personal data researchchemicals.blog (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit or contact us, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. It is written for readers in the UK, the European Union and the USA.
Who is responsible for your data
researchchemicals.blog is the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us about anything in this policy through our contact page.
What we collect and why
When you contact us
If you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address, subject and message. We use them only to reply to you and to deal with your enquiry, such as a correction request. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us. Form submissions are sent to us by email; we keep that correspondence for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and then delete it, normally within 24 months.
When you comment
If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, plus your IP address and browser user-agent to help detect spam. Your comment and name are public; your email address is not. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you use it; if you do, your Gravatar profile picture appears next to your comment. Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be approved automatically. You can ask us to delete your comment at any time.
If you subscribe to updates
If we offer a newsletter and you sign up, we use your email address only to send you the updates you asked for, based on your consent. Every email lets you unsubscribe, and we delete your address when you do.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, through Google Site Kit, to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found us. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site. We do not use it to identify you personally, and we do not use advertising features. For visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, Google Analytics runs in a restricted mode (Google Consent Mode with analytics storage turned off): it does not set analytics cookies on your device and only sends limited, cookieless measurement data to Google. Google’s handling of this data is described in its own privacy policy.
Server and security logs
Like all websites, our hosting provider automatically records technical information such as IP addresses, request times and browser details to keep the site running securely. These logs are kept for a limited period and are not used to identify visitors.
Cookies
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Comment cookies (comment_author_*) | Remember your name and email if you choose when commenting | Up to 1 year |
| Google Analytics (_ga, _ga_*) | Distinguish visitors and sessions for statistics (not set for visitors in the UK, EEA or Switzerland) | Up to 2 years |
| WordPress login cookies | Used only by site administrators who log in | Session or up to 14 days |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking analytics cookies does not affect your ability to read the site.
Who we share data with
We do not sell or rent your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, such as our hosting provider, email provider, Google (analytics) and Automattic (Gravatar and spam checking, where used), and only as needed for those services. We may also disclose data if required by law.
International transfers
Some of our service providers, including Google, process data in the USA or other countries outside the UK and EU. Where this happens, transfers rely on recognised safeguards such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension, or standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EU, you have the right to access your personal data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw consent at any time where we rely on consent. To use any of these rights, contact us through our contact page. We will respond within one month.
You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority. In the UK this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU it is the authority in your country.
If you are in the USA, some state privacy laws give you rights to know, access, correct and delete personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising. Contact us to make a request.
Children
This site is written for professional and educational audiences and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Security
We use HTTPS across the site, keep software up to date and limit access to personal data. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
